Three Wise Monte Vistans

Hello again, fine people. I have received many nice emails from many of you and I am looking forward to hearing from the rest of you, too! I do still owe a couple of emails to some folks...

I was indirectly encouraged by Tammy Akervold (Reeder) to check out the yearbook, and I am glad I did! How serious most of us considered those few years, and how young you were. I looked at those pictures and realized we were kids. Some of us have kids older than them. We have been away from there longer than all of our years leading up to then. I am really looking forward to seeing all of you.

So on to business! I've talked to a couple of people still in the area from '86 and '87 to see what they did and I think we are on track for a great reunion time. In fact, to make it easier for those of us who don't live in Watsonville, it might be better to hold the picnic and dinner on the same day. My thoughts are that we would meet on the Monte Vista Campus around 10 or so in the morning, and hang out there all day. We can order some sammiches for lunch that day, then abandon ship around four, and meet again for dinner at the Green Valley Grill around six or whenever.

Feel free to chime in. The link on the right goes to Facebook, and that has been a cool way to keep in touch with some of you. When you sign up, join the Monte Vista Class of 88 group, and teachers and staff from then are welcome to join as well.

Things that are on my to do list right now:
- Setting up reservations for the GVG.
- Trying again to contact MV. Not much luck so far, even though I know a couple of teachers there now.
- Figuring out the cost of this thing and a way to collect the money.
- Making a list of who we have heard from and who is missing.

Alright, that's all for now! Oh yeah, the above picture was taken on the senior lawn, and it's from the yearbook. It's Tammy, Amy, and Heather.

Dates have been set

I finally sent the email off to the staff at Monte Vista to secure the date of July 12th, 2008 as a time to meet on campus and revisit the good old days. Time to relive the past, friends! Let's see what the place looks like now, how many of your old teachers are still involved there, and how much weight your friends have gained since you last saw them.

So set aside this weekend:

July 11th, 12th, and 13th.

The idea is that you'll join us for a dinner at a place to be determined on Friday the 11th. The next day we'll meet at Monte Vista for a picnic of some sort -- we're still figuring this out -- and Sunday well, you may need that to get back to Nashville.

I've posted a link to facebook on the right, which you can use to join the group. We'll use that to communicate to each other as well as this. Hopefully you will call your old friends and let them know if they are not connected to the internet (if that's possible -- you're not 40!).

Until later,

Matt Smith
