Mark Sievers

Black Thunder...

Jason Blanchard posted the following link on facebook and asked that it be posted here. You'll need an account on facebook to view it but the short story is that Mark passed away after our ten year reunion.

Jason Blanchard's Photos - In Memory of Mark Robert Sievers: 6/16/70 - 9/3/00

Black Thunder was the name of the band that Mark came up with in response to White Lightning, the band with Steve, Sterling, Dan Halen and Noah.

I was sorry to hear about this so late, and found Jason's pictorial tribute to Mark touching. It's worth a visit.

Pictures

To those of you who missed it, you can enjoy the reunion vicariously through pictures. I've uploaded to facebook, so one more reason you should give in and join. Even Steve Erickson, who refuses to carry a cell phone based on the assumption they are ubiquitous and therefore he doesn't need one, now has an account there.

If you would like to download the entire set of over a hundred and thirty, you can get them in a zip file here

The food at the Green Valley Grill was great, and the Monte Vista catered BBQ was nicely done as well, with hot dogs, hamburgers, ribs and a garden variety of salads. The campus has really grown! The rules seem to have relaxed a bit there as well, now, with dancing, long hair, blue jeans all not only permissible but encouraged. There are even classes offered in male grooming.

Rumors are that the next reunion will be at Monte Vista World, in Florida.

Where to stay?

Christy Hunt of Bob and Christy asked if we'd made any arrangements for hotels or anything like that.

The short answer is nope, but here is what I recommended to her:

1) Holiday Inn Express in Watsonville.

2) Seacliff Inn in Aptos

3) Seascape Resort

These are listed in order of increasing prices, so I'm sure the quality goes up for each.

We need piles and piles of PICTURES!

If you have some vintage '88 photos, scan those suckers and email them to Kraig Kuykendall, who is setting up a laptop and a projector for your viewing pleasure at dinner.

You can contact Mr. Kuykendall by email at kraig.kuykendall@gmail.com.

Thanks, kids, see you in a month or so.

TV for the Elderly

With kids comes the domestic life and that means dinner at home and TV instead of movies and restaurants. I missed the original broadcasts of Seinfeld but have since seen them all in syndication.

Tonight TVLand is premiering a show all about a 20 year high school reunion. Even worse than a regular reunion, like we are expecting in the summer, because Big-Brother-style they are putting these former classmates in lockdown in a huge house. The house happens to be on Maui, so expect lots of bikinis and rampant, well, you know.

Anyone planning to watch it? My Tivo is set, so I'll let you know how it goes.
